Jason Biggs Recalls Rock Bottom Moment: Diving Into Trash for Drugs Before Finding Sobriety

Jason Biggs once resorted to rummaging through a trash bin in a desperate attempt to retrieve discarded drugs during a wild night of substance abuse.

The beloved American Pie actor, now 37 and proudly celebrating over seven years of sobriety, opened up about his darkest struggles with addiction. In a candid conversation on the Well with Arielle Lorre podcast, Jason recounted his lowest moment—a harrowing 2008 incident where he tossed away a bag of cocaine in an effort to quit, only to later fish it back out from the garbage.

"I lived in that gray area," Jason admitted. "I’ve had my share of extreme moments—like snorting dust off the floor or worse." He then shared one particularly shocking story: "I was home alone doing cocaine late at night. After what I swore was my last line, within minutes I was already regretting it. So I dug through the trash, pulled out the bag, and did another line."

The cycle didn’t end there. After throwing the drugs away again and attempting to call it a night by taking an Ambien sleeping pill, temptation struck once more. "Right before bed," he confessed, "I thought ‘Just one more.’ So I went outside, climbed into the dumpster to retrieve that same bag of coke—then went back inside and did another line." Reflecting on that moment now, he added: "That’s when it hit me—‘What am I even doing? This is insane.’"

Despite multiple attempts at sobriety early on, Jason struggled with relapses whenever isolation crept in. "When I was alone," he explained, "that's when old habits would resurface. My sobriety felt so fragile back then." His turning point came after relocating from Los Angeles to New York in 2015—a move he credits for finally breaking free from addiction.

"There’s something about New York’s energy that filled me in ways L.A. couldn't," Jason reflected. Though he admits stumbling one last time after moving eastward ("seven-and-a-half years ago"), his journey since has been transformative: “Since then? It's been smooth sailing.” Now thriving both personally and professionally without substances holding him back anymore proves just how far this former party animal has come since those dark days digging through trash bins for fleeting highs. p > < / div >
